Dia De Los Muertos Calavera Sand Painting Kit
Welcome to calavera sand painting, a new way to make “sugar skull” art.
Celebrating Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is an ancient Latin tradition that has become increasingly popular around the world. Each year on November 1 and 2 people gather to remember their loved ones who have passed on. It is a happy occasion, with food, drink, flowers, music and dancing and lots of happy images of skulls and skeletons.
All of the calaveras pictured in this kit started with the same design. By choosing different color combinations, applying the sand in different ways, and etching different designs into the sand, you can make an endless variety of paintings.
As you begin each painting, think about the life of the person you are remembering: their personality, favorite colors, the things they liked to do. You can bring all of these elements into your painting.
